Taking care of Mom and Dad in Home

Finding the right nursing home and nursing home care is often difficult, time consuming and stressful if you are under pressure to make a quick decision due to a recent hospitalization or a recent deterioration in health status.

A nursing home ideally should be considered when in-home care or an assisted living facility is no longer enough to meet the needs of your senior family member.

A nursing home is the most extensive level of care for seniors, outside of a hospital. Nursing homes provide a high level of care and assistance including help with getting in and out of bed, assistance with eating, bathing and dressing.

Many misconceptions exist about nursing homes and how they differ from other types of facilities. The main difference with these facilities is they provide skilled medical care from registered nurses and other specially trained professionals such as physical, occupational and respiratory therapists. Licensed physicians and skilled nursing care is available on site, usually 24 hours a day allowing for medical procedures and therapies to be performed at the facility.

Living arrangements in a nursing home vary, but typically offer both private and shared rooms. Meals may be provided in room while others may offer a centralized dining area. Traditionally, the facility has been designed with patient ease as the primary goal.

Whether your family is faced with making a quick decision about a nursing home and is need of skilled or unskilled (non-medical) due to a recent health event or just beginning to look for care, we will provide you with all the housing possibilities and financing information so you can make a well informed decision.
